The Easiest Way to Refresh Your Extensions Between Installs

When your extensions are out, it’s the perfect moment to give them a little extra care before their next wear. A quick refresh not only revives their look and feel but also helps them last longer. Here’s how to prepare them so they’re ready for a flawless reinstall.

1. Give Them a Gentle Wash and Deep Condition

Start by brushing out your extensions to remove surface tangles. Use lukewarm water and a sulfate-free shampoo. Avoid scrubbing or twisting, as this can cause unnecessary friction. Follow with a nourishing, silicone-free conditioner or mask, leaving it on for 5-10 minutes to restore softness and shine.

2. Light, Careful Detangling

After rinsing, gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel, then let them air dry until they’re about 80–90% dry. Using a wide-tooth comb or loop brush, detangle from the ends upward, working in small sections. This helps prevent breakage while keeping the cuticles smooth.

3. Choose Products That Protect Moisture

Before reinstalling, apply a small amount of lightweight, leave-in conditioner or hair oil to the ends. Avoid heavy products like waxes, thick creams, or silicones, which can weigh hair down and cause buildup over time.
